TTIP: Ramping Down Standards

stop-ttip-generic-fbAn open letter to all MEPs

TTIP has been a concern of mine for nearly a year now. It is a potential threat to our food safety, as relaxed US regulations on products such as hormone-treated beef and chlorinated chicken replace more stringent European ones.

Most worryingly of all is the proposed Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) clause that will allow multinational companies to sue individual countries directly for loss of profits that were due to public policy decisions.

It was heartening to see US Congress put the brakes on the initiative last week, but more needs to be done. So, I ask that when you sit down with the Trade Committee on May 28th, you will vote against both TTIP and the ISDS mechanism included within it.

Please consider my views when you decide the resolution next week.

I look forward to hearing from you.
